Paris, France

Palais du Luxembourg

In 1612, Marie de Medicis (the wife of Henri IV) was widowed and decided to have this palace built. However, when her son, Louis XIII, found out she was planning to overthrow him, he had her exiled, so she never got to live in the palace. Now the palace can only be visited on the first Sunday of the month at 10:30 am -- reservations are suggested! Since our timing didn't meet these requirements, we were satisfied with enjoying the gardens surrounding the palace before catching the high speed train to Tours for the beginning of our biking tour of the Loire Valley.
